You can find them at supermarkets in the health food sections but it can be quite pricy and it’s often in a package stored on the shelves that doesn’t require refrigerating. Wouldn’t it be great if you can make your own rice milk when ever you want rather than buying a preserved ones? This is the most simple, easy, and quick rice milk recipe you can find on the internet. You will need:

  • Blender
  • Glasses or cups

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups Cooked rice or 3 teaspoons raw rice
  • 1+ cup Water (adjust as you blend them)
  • Honey, maple syrup, sugar, salt or any flavour you like (*optional)

Instructions:

1. How to make Rice Milk with Cooked Rice

  1. Prepare cooked rice.
  2. Put rice and water in a blender.
  3. Blend them together for 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Pour it in glasses.
  5. Add honey or sugar if you like it sweet. You can add very little salt to taste to have it simple.

2. How to make Rice Milk with Raw Rice

  1. Rinse rice then put it in a yogurt maker and add water. (approx. 40 ℃)
  2. Let it sit for half a day or a day.
  3. When it’s ready, blend it in a blender for 2 minutes.
  4. Use a strainer and filter the liquid.
  5. Add a flavour if you wish.

Tips

  • Add any flavour you like. Honey, maple syrup, sugar of your preference, vanilla extract, salt, etc.
  • When straining the liquid, use kitchen paper, coffee filters, or any strainers you have.
  • If straining once isn’t enough for you, do it for few more times.
  • If you are planning to use it as a milk substitute, it’s better to make it thicker. Add less water and adjust as you blend in the blender.
  • You can also as a hot rice milk by heating in a milk pan. (or microwave it if that’s easier for you. I personally don’t like microwaving)

You will need:

  • pan

  • tea storage container

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup Brown rice
  • 1 cup Green tea
  • 1/2 teaspoon Matcha, powdered green tea (*optional)

Instructions:

  1. Pre heat pan over low to medium heat and put brown rice. Make sure you don’t burn it while roasting.
  2. When rice starts popping, keep heating until they turn into popcorns then place them on a plate and let it cool down.
  3. In a bowl, blend popped brown rice and green tea together.
  4. If you like it strong, blend 1/2 teaspoon of green tea powder.
  5. Keep it in an empty tea container.

Tips

  • If you prefer smoky taste, roast brown rice longer but Do Not burn it.
  • The cooling down process is very important as tea is better when it’s dry.
  • Green tea is quite sensitive with smell. Store them in a container and avoid humidity or wetness.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Raw or roasted Almond (no salt added)
  • 3.5 cups Water + extra water for soaking almonds
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract / 1 Vanilla beans
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, put roasted almonds and pour enough water to cover the nuts.
  2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, soak the nuts overnight.
  3. Check if the nuts are softened then drain the water and discard.
  4. Pour soaked nuts, water, a pinch of salt, and vanilla extract in a blender and blend it for 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Strain the mixture using strainer.

Tips

  • Discard water that was used for soaking the nuts.
  • Make sure the almonds are soaked well and soft. If its still hard, soak it longer.
  • Soak the almonds in a refrigerator in summer time or in a hot room. Put them in a tupperwear instead of using a large bowl.
  • Strain well to make smooth almond milk.
  • Homemade almond milk will last up to 3 to 5 days in the refrigerator.
  • Finish using it while fresh.
  • You can make homemade cereal with almond that’s been strained.

How to Reduce Salt

  • Put salt pickled cherry blossom flower in a small cup and pour hot water.
  • Leave it for 20 seconds.
  • Take it out and dry it with kitchen paper.
